Basketball Recap: Southmont Falls Despite Big Games from Layla Gomez and Ella Barry

Southmont lost against Tri-West Hendricks back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Southmont Mounties lost to the Tri-West Hendricks Bruins at home by a 67-53 margin.

Southmont's loss came despite strong showings from Ella Barry and Layla Gomez. Barry went 8 for 14 en route to 22 points and four steals, while Gomez dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. That was a full 41.5% of Southmont's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Tri-West Hendricks got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lauren Bear out in front who earned 20 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Blair Benner was another key player, going 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points along with eight steals and seven boards.

Southmont has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Tri-West Hendricks, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Southmont wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-42 victory against Seeger on the 17th. Tri-West Hendricks has also already played their next contest (against Lebanon), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
