Baseball Recap: Belchertown Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Belchertown barely beat Chicopee the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Orioles were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Pacers on Monday. The Orioles haven't had any issues with the Pacers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Evan Ferguson and Ian McDonald made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ferguson didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, McDonald tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. At bat, Ferguson went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double, while McDonald went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Thatcher Rudnik, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Joseph Jordan also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Belchertown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Chicopee, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Belchertown and Chicopee could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings. The Orioles will face off against Pittsfield at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (127 vs. 19). Meanwhile, Chicopee (ranked 290th) will meet Agawam (ranked 140th) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
