League recap: Newport climbs in standings with win

Newport was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to sixth in Tri-Valley. Earlier in the week, the Buffaloes defeated East Juniata 42-29.

Tri-Valley moved up to 213 from 251 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bulldogs climbed the ranks as a result of a 35-14 win over Millersburg.

Williams Valley's dynamic duo of Stephen Sedesse and Brendan Miller proved tough for Pine Grove to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Sedesse threw for 233 yards and four touchdowns and Miller had 92 yards receiving. Owen Daniel helped Williams Valley's passing attack out by catching two balls for 87 yards.

Neil Bodley was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 244 yards on 20 carries as Juniata bested the Cardinals. Teammate Scott Sneath added to the ground attack by rushing for 115 yards.

Williams Valley's Sedesse and Daniel have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Tri-Valley in both passing and receiving yards. Sedesse has thrown for 982 yards this season, while Daniel, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 30 catches for 536 yards. Tri-Valley's Blake Bowman leads the league in rushing yards with 942.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Williams Valley takes on second place Tri-Valley. Tim Savage's team bested Pine Grove last week, while Mike Kogut's team beat the Indians.

Bodley of the the Indians is only 77 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Bodley has rushed for 923 yards on 103 carries so far this year.

The Vikings extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Jeff Sampson's team, 43-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
