Football Recap: Royal Takes a Loss

Royal played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 44-9 loss at the hands of the Ventura Cougars. The Highlanders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-3.

A big part of Ventura's victory came down to the chemistry between Derek Garcia and his top target Jack Cunningham. Garcia threw for 352 yards and six TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes while Cunningham picked up 200 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Those six passing touchdowns gave Garcia a new career-high.

This is the second loss in a row for Royal and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Ventura, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Royal is set to take on their familiar foe Moorpark at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Ventura will face off against rival Oak Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Garcia and Grayson Auzat.
