Baseball Recap: Redlands Adventist Academy Comes Up Short

Redlands Adventist Academy extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 6-7 in the process. They came up short against the Temecula Prep Patriots, falling 17-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 6-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Redlands Adventist Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Karpenko, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Temecula Prep, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

On Temecula Prep's side, Kevin Baker and Evan Van Winkle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Baker tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Van Winkle tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Baker got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Van Winkle earned two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Van Winkle has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Braden Litt and Noah Scarlett did most of the damage at the plate: Litt got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base, while Scarlett went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Scarlett is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Nikolaz Gonzalez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Redlands Adventist Academy will host Mesa Grande Academy at 3:00 p.m. on the 29th. As for Temecula Prep, they will welcome Hamilton at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.31 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of.
