Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Leon

Leon came out on top against Rice on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run fifth inning. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Bulldogs. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won three games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Pace Thomas and Ricky Ashley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Thomas pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Ashley tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Thomas has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season. At the plate, Thomas went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Ashley went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Ashley a new career-high.

In other batting news, Leon let Landon Thomas and Parker Thomas run wild. Landon got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Parker went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Braxton Morris, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Leon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rice only posted an OBP of .483.

The win keeps Leon at an undefeated 4-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average this season. As for Rice, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3-1.
