The Montgomery Academy Eagles will square off against the Luverne Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Luverne will be up against a hot Montgomery Academy squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Eagles blew past Northside Methodist Academy, posting a 62-6 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Knights are ranked 339th).

Mac Benefield was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 103 yards and a pair of TDs on only five carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024. Another rusher making a difference was Mitch Corley, who rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns.
Montgomery Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Kingston Nelson picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Luverne was fully in charge last Thursday, breezing past Zion Chapel 64-6. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Luverne's win came from a few key players Montgomery Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Elliott Harris, who rushed for 89 yards and a pair of scores, and also caught one TD. He was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards. Khi Harris was another key player, rushing for 76 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Luverne's run defense was locked in: Zion Chapel could only muster 3.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Tony Franklin for the heroic effort on defense: he. That's the most yards per carry they've managed all season.
Luverne's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Montgomery Academy, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Montgomery Academy has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 183.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Luverne struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 331.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
