Football Recap: Serrano Comes Up Short

Serrano and Barstow squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Serrano had to settle for second. They came up short against the Aztecs, falling 34-12. The game marked the Diamondbacks' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Issiah Romo threw for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Nathan Contreras was his top target, picking up 62 receiving yards. On the ground, Anthony Rucker rushed for 54 yards.

Nicholas Gaoa had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 138 yards and three scores, while also picking up 69 receiving yards for Barstow. Gaoa is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jarvis (JJ) Applewhite, who rushed for 24 yards and one TD.

Serrano's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Barstow, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-3.

Serrano does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Barstow, they will take on La Canada at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Aztecs 14.6, the Spartans 10.4) so any points scored will be well earned.
