Baseball Recap: Glenwood Springs Drops Season-High Score on Montezuma-Cortez

Glenwood Springs took a 19-run defeat the last time they faced off against Montezuma-Cortez, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Demons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 18-17 win over the Panthers on Friday. The Demons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Max Mazur was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Grady Aguirre and Josh Doll did most of the damage at the plate: Aguirre went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Doll scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave Aguirre a new career-high. Trey Gallegos also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Glenwood Springs kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

Glenwood Springs' record is now 5-2. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they moved to 7-2 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.
