Football Game Preview: Brea Olinda Wildcats vs. Mary Star of the Sea Stars + Official Tickets

The Brea Olinda Wildcats will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Mary Star of the Sea Stars at 7:00 p.m. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 917 yards in their previous games.

On Friday, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Brea Olinda made off with a 28-27 victory over Esperanza. The win almost wasn't to be: the Wildcats were down 21-7 in the second quarter.

Gavyn Nicholson produced another solid performance throwing for 245 yards and three TDs, while also rushing for 51 yards and one touchdown. Those 245 passing yards gave him a new career-high. A healthy portion of Nicholson's aerial production (113 yards to be exact) went to Ryan Nero, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Brea Olinda didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jaxon Simmons and Dalton Tagaloa. Tagaloa is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as he's now defended at least one in each of the last seven games he's played. Nolan Santana was another major factor on D, picking up three sacks, forcing one fumble, and making 16 total tackles (5.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Mary Star of the Sea waltzed into their contest on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They breezed past the Vikings to the tune of 61-31. The Stars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 30 points or more this season.

Mary Star of the Sea's win came from a few key players Brea Olinda will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Giuseppe Virzi, who rushed for 154 yards and one score on only ten carries. Another player making a difference was Amari Powell, who picked up 98 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Brea Olinda's record now sits at 7-3. As for Mary Star of the Sea, their record is now 8-2.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Brea Olinda has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 187.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mary Star of the Sea struggles in that department as they've been averaging 165.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
