Football Recap: St. Mary's Cardinals vs. Wynot Blue Devils

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, St. Mary couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell 71-60 to the Wynot Blue Devils on Monday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (52), the Cardinals still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, St. Mary's still got an impressive performance from Gage Hedstrom, who threw for 347 yards and six TDs while picking up 11.6 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 59 yards and three scores. Hedstrom is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in three or more in each of the last three games he's played. A healthy portion of Hedstrom's aerial production (96 yards to be exact) went to James Eby, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

A big part of Wynot's win came down to the chemistry between Devin Brummer and his top target Kotner Koch. Brummer threw for 400 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 89.3% of his passes while Koch gained 274 total yards and six touchdowns. That's the most passing touchdowns Brummer has posted since back in August. Lane Heimes was another key player, gaining 119 total yards and two touchdowns.

Having lost for the first time this season, St. Mary's fell to 12-1. As for Wynot, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-1.

As of now, neither St. Mary's nor the Blue Devils have any future games scheduled.
