Pueblo Central is 8-2 against Pueblo South since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Wildcats will host the Colts at 1:00 p.m. Pueblo Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Pueblo Central made easy work of Pueblo Centennial and carried off a 13-1 victory. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Pueblo Central let Anthony Trujillo and Colton Calderon run wild. Trujillo went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Calderon went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Calderon has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Zack Haney, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Pueblo Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Pueblo South won against Canon City on Wednesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Colts had just enough and edged out Mesa Ridge 7-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Colts.
The team relied heavily on Andrew Nolasco, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Caeden Herrera, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Pueblo Central's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Pueblo South, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pueblo Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Pueblo South struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Pueblo Central's way against Pueblo South in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Pueblo Central made off with a 10-3 win. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
