Softball Recap: Waterbury Career Academy Comes Up Short

Waterbury Career Academy had lost five straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-8 to make it six. They lost 19-1 to the St. Paul Catholic Falcons. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 6-0 to the Falcons when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for St. Paul Catholic, the win keeps they at an undefeated 8-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average this season.

For St. Paul Catholic's part, Breyona Demora made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Demora has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Laila McCulloch and Stella Boucino did most of the damage at the plate: McCulloch went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Boucino went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Taylor Williams was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Waterbury Career Academy has already played their next match (against Ansonia), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for St. Paul Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 12-0 defeat against Seymour on the 28th.
