Basketball Game Preview: St. George's Gryphons vs. Middle College Bulldogs

The St. George's Gryphons will face off against the Middle College Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

St. George's easily dispatched Craigmont on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Gryphons fell just short of Olive Branch by a score of 43-41 on Monday. The loss put an end to the Gryphons' undefeated start to the season.

Despite the defeat, St. George's saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Carson Crump shot 45% from the field to rack up 21 points and six rebounds. Crump has also been stellar as far as shooting accuracy is concerned: he's posted one of at least 45% every time he's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was Martechio 'MJ' Hayes, who went 5-for-11 on his way to 10 points.

Meanwhile, Middle College unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were outmatched by Memphis Business Academy and fell 102-66.

Having lost for the first time this season, St. George's fell to 2-1. As for Middle College, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
