Football Game Preview: Minisink Valley Warriors vs. Rye Garnets + How To Watch

The Minisink Valley Warriors will challenge the Rye Garnets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are still undefeated (Minisink Valley has ten wins , while Rye has 11 dating back to last season).

Minisink Valley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cornwall Central, sneaking past 24-21. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Dragons on their field since November 12, 2021.

Zach Filip had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 145 yards and two scores while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Those 145 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Minisink Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cornwall Central only rushed for 73.

Meanwhile, Rye faced Somers in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Garnets put the hurt on the Tuskers with a sharp 40-17 win. Considering the Garnets have won eight contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Rye's win came from a few key players Minisink Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Carson Miller, who rushed for 87 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 347 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 17.4 yards per attempt. A healthy portion of that aerial production (221 yards to be exact) went to Henry Shoemaker, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.

Rye didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Charlie Brady and Miller.

Minisink Valley's record is now 10-0. As for Rye, their record now sits at 11-0.

Minisink Valley couldn't quite get it done against Rye in their previous matchup back in November of 2021 as they fell 31-21. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
