Volleyball Recap: The Nueva School's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

After a string of four wins, The Nueva School's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Summit Shasta Black Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Black Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in September.

While The Nueva School ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 21-25, 25-18, 25-20.

Despite the defeat, The Nueva School saw an underclassman step up: freshman Julia Cai had 14 kills, four aces, and one block. Cai is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had seven or more in each of the last three games she's played. Vivian Ma was another key player, getting four digs and three aces.

Summit Shasta got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Maile Moffat out in front who had 20 digs. That's the most digs Moffat has posted over her last five matchups. Daniela Ruiz also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

The Nueva School's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Summit Shasta, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season.

The Nueva School has already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Design Tech on the 16th. As for Summit Shasta, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Pacific Bay Christian on the 16th.
