Encinal is 1-9 against Castro Valley since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Jets will host the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Encinal's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Castro Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Encinal turned things around against Berkeley on Saturday. They came out on top against the Yellowjackets by a score of 8-4.
Zach Pippen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Matan Antebi was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Eric Proctor, who earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Castro Valley made sure to put some runs up on the board against Jesse M. Bethel on Monday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 11-4 victory. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.
Like Encinal, Castro Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Andrew Mu?oz. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mu?oz also tossed no walks, which is notable because Castro Valley is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-10 otherwise. Mu?oz was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other pitching news, Dhillon Baughman looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Gavin Perkins, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Castro Valley: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise. Max Meier was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Encinal's win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Castro Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 9-11.
