Baseball Recap: Belleville West Wins Going Away Against Mater Dei

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Belleville West). They put the hurt on the Mater Dei Knights with a sharp 14-1 win on Wednesday. With that victory, the Maroons brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Ethan Hofmeister was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Michael Robertson, who scored four runs while going 3-for-3. He also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season. Bryce Schaltenbrand was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

Belleville West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got Belleville West back to even at 2-2. As for Mater Dei, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
