Baseball Recap: Lakeland Gets the Win

Lakeland hadn't done well against Moscow recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Hawks narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Bears 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted against the Bears since April 9, 2024.

Jace Taylor made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jake Larcher, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for Lakeland: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Cash Lund also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Lakeland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Moscow struck out nine times.

Lakeland pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Moscow, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakeland will welcome Coeur d'Alene at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Moscow, they will be playing at home against Post Falls at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
