Basketball Game Preview: San Ysidro Cougars vs. Otay Ranch Mustangs

San Ysidro is on a nine-game streak of home losses also dating back to last season, Otay Ranch a four-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season, but someone's luck will change on Friday. The San Ysidro Cougars will welcome the Otay Ranch Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

San Ysidro is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Bonita Vista on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. San Ysidro was beaten by Bonita Vista 81-38. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-20.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 61 points the game before, Otay Ranch was a bit more limited in their contest on Saturday. They were outmatched by Mission Hills and fell 78-28. The game marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

San Ysidro will have to keep a close watch on Johann Omae and Nyno Lopez, a pair of players who had a big impact on Otay Ranch's prior game. Omae went 5 of 12 on his way to 13 points, while Lopez posted five points.

San Ysidro's defeat dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Otay Ranch, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.
