Football Recap: Denver East Angels vs. Chatfield Chargers
Denver East managed to slip by Chatfield the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Angels had to suffer through a 55-18 loss at the hands of the Chargers. The Angels were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-15.
Denver East's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was James Pillivant, who picked up 120 receiving yards and one score. Pillivant's longest reception was for an incredible 70 yards. Jack Ehrlich also helped out as he racked up 110 receiving yards.
Chatfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cash Williams out in front who threw for 326 yards and four TDs while completing 72.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 39 yards. Those 326 passing yards gave Williams a new career-high. Donny Runyan also helped out as he racked up 101 receiving yards.
This is the second loss in a row for Denver East and nudges their season record down to 1-6. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 5.5 yards per carry in those games compared to only 3.28 in the others. As for Chatfield, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Denver East has already played their next contest, a 48-0 defeat against Arvada West on the 17th. As for Chatfield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 33-16 win against Denver South on the 17th.
