Basketball Recap: University Comes Up Short

University was the 56-25 winner over Marin Academy when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Red Devils were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 35-34 to the Wildcats. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Red Devils came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 462nd).

University's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Mendiola, who posted nine points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Anna Beischer, who earned 13 points and seven boards.

University moved to 15-9 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Marin Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

University has already played their next matchup, a 69-41 win against San Domenico on the 3rd. As for Marin Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-35 loss against Lick-Wilmerding on the 3rd.
