Softball Game Preview: Union County Panthers vs. Sonoraville Phoenix + Official Tickets

The Union County Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Sonoraville Phoenix at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Union County has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Union County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Murray County a 2-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, Sonoraville had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Phoenix have won 16 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ansley Hall looked comfortable as she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 17 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marley Hall was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julia Patterson, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Union County's record now sits at 19-10. As for Sonoraville, their record is now 27-5.

Union County couldn't quite get it done against Sonoraville in their previous matchup back in September as they fell 5-0. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
