Baseball Game Preview: Jones Eagles vs. Holy Trinity Tigers

The Jones Eagles will take on the Holy Trinity Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Jones proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Kennedy 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Crusaders: they've now won eight in a row.

Jack Hiltz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellis Alexander, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Christophe DeWijkerslooth was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Jones kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Holy Trinity, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Hancock with a sharp 19-9 win on Thursday. The Tigers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Holy Trinity pushed their record up to 2-2 with the victory, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Jones, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Jones came out on top in a nail-biter against Holy Trinity when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 14-12. Will Jones repeat their success, or does Holy Trinity has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
