Softball Recap: Escambia Comes Up Short

Escambia dropped to 6-13 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 12-2 to the Todd County Central Rebels. The Gators were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but the Rebels' pitcher proved too tough.

As for Todd County Central, the win got them back to even at 7-7. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Todd County Central's part, Addison Woodall was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Those 12 strikeouts gave Woodall a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Naomi Gammon, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Naomi Welborn, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Escambia will welcome Pensacola Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Todd County Central, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Russellville at 5:30 p.m.
