Basketball Recap: The Burlington School Takes Down St. Thomas More Academy in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Burlington School walked away with it. They blew past the St. Thomas More Academy Chancellors 65-43 on Thursday. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 22 points or more this season.

The Burlington School's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alaiyah Mitchell, who posted 20 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Mitchell's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Harrelson, who put up 22 points.

St. Thomas More Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Winnie Dehring and Adella Dehring. Winnie had 15 points in addition to six boards and four steals, while Adella scored 11 points and four steals. Adella has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 17 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of LIlian Marquardt, who earned eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

The victory (which was The Burlington School's fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-8. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.2 points. As for St. Thomas More Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-13.

The Burlington School didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-42 defeat against Freedom Christian Academy on the 15th. St. Thomas More Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
