Independence proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 11) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Ardrey Kell Knights 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since May 2, 2024.

Morgan Clark was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gianna McCloud, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Clark wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matches.

Independence's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Ardrey Kell, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-7.

Independence and Ardrey Kell should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Independence (ranked 26th) will meet Charlotte Catholic (ranked 88th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Ardrey Kell will take on Ballantyne Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 161 places (101 vs. 262).
