Softball Recap: Hale Ray Victorious

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Hale Ray walked away with it. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Little Noises in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won seven in a row.

Lily Jahne spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 22 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, PJ Riccio and Fenway Jankowski did most of the damage at the plate: Riccio went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Jankowski went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those two doubles gave Riccio a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Briella Dean, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Hale Ray's victory bumped their record up to 20-5. As for Coginchaug Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-13.

Coming up, Hale Ray is taking a road trip to challenge St. Paul Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Little Noises 1.5, the Falcons 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Coginchaug Regional does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
