Softball Preview: Herndon Hornets vs. Langley Saxons

Herndon hasn't had much luck against Langley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hornets will welcome the Saxons at 6:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Herndon took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against George C. Marshall, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hornets had just enough and edged out the Statesmen 7-6 on Tuesday. With that win, the Hornets brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Cadence Godshalk was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Katie McGee was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Anna Korsvall was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Langley never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Wakefield, sneaking past 1-0. The Saxons haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Langley's win bumped their record up to 9-5-1. As for Herndon, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-5 record.
