League recap: Hennessey extends winning streak with victory over Tonkawa

Hennessey extended the longest winning streak in 2A District 1 this week by beating Tonkawa, 38-21. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

Chisholm and Newkirk played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Chisholm eventually emerging with a 41-35 victory. Tabor Charles threw for 49 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 74 yards in the win.

Hennessey's dynamic duo of Dylan Hatchel and Edgar Fierro proved tough for the Buccaneers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hatchel threw for 146 yards and two touchdowns and Fierro had 95 yards receiving. Brady Fipps helped Hennessey's passing attack out by catching three balls for 32 yards.

Bryce Stewart was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 30 carries, he ran for 169 yards as the Longhorns bested Tonkawa.

Austin Swann made the biggest impact on defense this week as Chisholm beat the Tigers. The 6-foot-1 sophomore recorded one fumble.

Hennessey's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Hatchel has thrown for 989 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Fierro has 25 catches for 420 yards. Levi Hill leads the league in rushing with 1166 yards.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Eagles take on Alva. Hennessey's offense has scored 328 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Goldbugs have allowed only 105 on the year.

The Goldbugs took down Dibble 62-12 last week, the largest margin of any game.
