Softball Recap: South Central Comes Up Short

South Central extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-13 in the process. They came up short against the Monroeville Eagles, falling 19-3. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 8-4 to the Eagles when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

South Central saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Sanders, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that Sanders has snagged this season.

As for Monroeville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by nine runs or more this season.

On Monroeville's side, Veanna Helmstetter was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Helmstetter has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Monroeville got a massive performance out of Avery Rosser, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Rosser a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taryn Tyler, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI.

While South Central had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
