Basketball Recap: Happy Camp Comes Up Short

If Happy Camp was feeling good fresh off their 45-22 takedown of Dunsmuir last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Happy Camp Indians were beaten by the Hayfork Timberjacks 55-22 on Tuesday. The Indians have struggled against the Timberjacks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Laina Aubrey was Happy Camp's leading scorer, having posted 13 points. Aubrey also led the team in assists with two. Mary McAbier held things down on the boards with nine rebounds.

Hayfork found their leader in freshman Kaelynn Bayley, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Sidney Medellin, who posted six points and five assists.

Happy Camp's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Hayfork, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Happy Camp will square off against Surprise Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hayfork, they will head out on the road to face off against Dunsmuir at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hayfork has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 170 points over their last three matchups.
