Basketball Game Preview: Sumner Stingrays vs. Grant County Braves

The Sumner Stingrays and the Grant County Braves will round out the year against one another at at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Grant County is hoping to do what Brandon couldn't last Friday: put an end to Sumner's winning streak, which now stands at six games. Sumner claimed a resounding 70-27 victory over Brandon. The Stingrays' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Briana Gill-Guyette continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 7 of 10 en route to 17 points along with five boards and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed five or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamese Watson, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 14 points.

Sumner smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 37 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Grant County humbled Switzerland County with a 67-39 victory. Given the Braves' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 81st in Kentucky, while the Pacers are ranked 290th in Indiana), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sumner pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for Grant County, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
