Baseball Recap: Lakeland Drops Highest Score of Season Against Gibbs

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lakeland). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Gibbs Gladiators a 22-0 shutout on Friday. The Dreadnaughts not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25, 2024.

Lakeland let CLAY EICHLIN and EDRICK AYALA run wild. EICHLIN scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while AYALA went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. AYALA is becoming a predictor of Lakeland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-11 when he doesn't). Caleb Diaz also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The victory got Lakeland back to even at 11-11. As for Gibbs, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Coming up, Lakeland will challenge Winter Haven at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Gibbs, they will welcome Lakewood at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
