St. Michael dropped down to 14-15-1 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the TMI-Episcopal Panthers by a score of 8-6. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 6-1.
David Buttross made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with four RBI. Ivan Martinez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
As for TMI-Episcopal, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 10-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since March 5th.
On TMI-Episcopal's side, Wyatt Worthey and Brody Worrich were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Worthey tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Worrich kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. Worthey also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because TMI-Episcopal is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-10 otherwise. At bat, Worthey went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Worrich went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double was Worrich's first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joel Lassahn, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. TMI-Episcopal is undefeated when Lassahn posts two or more runs, but 7-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Atticus Murphy, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Michael's will challenge Allegiance at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for TMI-Episcopal, they will square off against Antonian Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
