Basketball Game Preview: Escalante Moquis vs. Panguitch Bobcats

Escalante hasn't had much luck against Panguitch recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Escalante Moquis will head out to challenge the Panguitch Bobcats at 7:00 p.m.

Escalante is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Green River on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Escalante was beaten by Green River 87-50. The Moquis were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-20.

Meanwhile, Panguitch was able to grind out a solid win over Piute on Thursday, taking the game 60-48. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.

Escalante better focus on containing Bridger Chappell and Daxton Miller as the pair were huge in Panguitch's win. Chappell dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, while Miller dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. Miller is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Remme Chappell, who posted 11 points.

Panguitch's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.1 points per game. As for Escalante, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Escalante suffered a grim 68-45 defeat to Panguitch when the teams last played back in January of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Escalante was down 37-11.
