Basketball Recap: East Lee County Falls Short of Gateway in the Playoffs

East Lee County and Gateway squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but East Lee County had to settle for second. They lost 87-67 to the Gateway Eagles. The defeat continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, East Lee County still got an impressive performance from Tobias Jean-Louis, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. Those 23 points gave Jean-Louis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Derek Bannister, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points.

Even though they lost, East Lee County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 14 consecutive matchups.

EJ Monteagudo continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Gateway, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 20 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Anjay Boyd, who went 5 for 6 en route to 14 points.

East Lee County's loss dropped their record down to 7-17. As for Gateway, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.

East Lee County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gateway, they will challenge Palmetto Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Palmetto Ridge will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Gateway surely won't give up without a fight.
