South Point is a perfect 10-0 against Ashbrook since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Red Raiders will be playing at home against the Greenwave at 6:00 p.m. South Point has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Wednesday, South Point came up short against Bessemer City and fell 12-8. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Destiny Stowe and Taylyn Ledford did some serious damage despite the final result: Stowe went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Ledford went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Lampkin, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contest, Ashbrook brought some dynamite into their most recent game. Everything went their way against Huss on Tuesday as they made off with a 17-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Greenwave, who have now won five matchups by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Helms Abby was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Abby was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs.
In other batting news, Gabby Campbell was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Jaelyn Crum was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with five stolen bases and two runs.
Ashbrook's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-9. As for South Point, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Point hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .413. However, it's not like Ashbrook struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Point got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against Ashbrook by a conclusive 22-1 score. Will the Red Raiders repeat their success, or do the Greenwave have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
