Baseball Recap: Skyline Takes a Loss

Skyline fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Central Woodstock on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 8-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 on April 13th.

Cohen Racer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Skyline saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Kerns, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. Kerns is becoming a predictor of the Hawks' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 2-10 when he doesn't). Joey Pendleton was another, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Skyline's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Central Woodstock, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Skyline will host Kettle Run at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central Woodstock, they will face off against Madison County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons are facing the Mountaineers at the right time seeing as the Mountaineers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
