Softball Recap: Hazelwood West Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

While Hazelwood West put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Maplewood-Richmond Heights. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Blue Devils. Considering the Wildcats have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Taylor Lee and Allisan Cafolla made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Lee pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Cafolla pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Lee went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Cafolla went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Cafolla has posted since back in September of 2024.

In other batting news, Hazelwood West got a massive performance out of Mia Boschen, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Mariah Thomas also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Hazelwood West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Hazelwood West has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Maplewood-Richmond Heights, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Hazelwood West is taking a road trip to challenge Ladue Horton Watkins at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. Maplewood-Richmond Heights does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
