Basketball Recap: Statesville Falls Despite Big Games from Manuel (MJ) Gladden and La'damien Parker

After flying high against West Iredell last Tuesday, Statesville came back down to earth. The Greyhounds took a hard 72-54 fall against the Carson Cougars on Monday. The loss continues a trend for the Greyhounds in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost four in a row.

Statesville's loss came despite strong showings from La'Damien Parker and Manuel (MJ) Gladden. Parker dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds, while Gladden posted 13 points and six steals. Jerome Newman was another key player, going 5-for-9 to rack up 10 points and five boards.

Statesville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Carson, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Looking ahead, Statesville will challenge Cannon at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The Greyhounds will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 76 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Carson, they will face off against West Mecklenburg at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
