Basketball Recap: Fort Wayne South Side Starts off Right with Win over Jay County

Fort Wayne South Side had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Jay County Patriots by a score of 64-57 on Tuesday. The Archers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Patriots, too.

Fort Wayne South Side was led to victory by Terrance Jordan and Jayvon Irby. Jordan shot 56% from the field on his way to 24 points along with eight steals and six rebounds, while Irby went 8-for-15 en route to 23 points and six boards. Those 23 points gave Irby a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Corte Wallace, who posted six points and five rebounds.

Jay County lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Gradin Swoveland, who shot 56% from the field to rack up 15 points and seven boards. He is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Forthofer, who made all 5 shots he took for 11 points and six rebounds.

Looking ahead, Fort Wayne South Side will venture away from home to take on Central Noble at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Jay County has already played their next matchup (against Richmond), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
