Basketball Recap: Mildred Skates Past Elkhart with Ease

The Mildred Eagles humbled the Elkhart Elks with a 62-33 victory. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 21 points or more this season.

When it comes to explaining why Elkhart lost on Thursday, don't look at Javon Smith. Despite the final result, he posted 12 points and six boards. That was a full 36.4% of the Elks' points, marking the sixth time in a row Smith has earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Callyn Franklin, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.

Mildred has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.9 points over those games. As for Elkhart, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-12.

Coming up, Mildred will venture away from home to face off against Frost at 2:00 p.m. on January 2, 2026. As for Elkhart, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 54-53 victory against Oakwood on the 30th.
