Appalachian had won six straight home games dating back to last season and Braden Gilliland did his part to make it seven on Friday. The Eagles snuck past the Cleveland Panthers with a 20-14 win thanks in part to Gilliland, who rushed for 249 yards and a pair of TDs. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack and made six total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Appalachian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ian Putman.

Appalachian's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Cleveland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Appalachian will venture away from home to challenge Locust Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cleveland, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cold Springs at 7:00 p.m. on September 12.
