Softball Recap: Martinsburg Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Martinsburg can now relate to. They came up short against the Spring Mills Cardinals on Thursday, falling 14-2. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, with their most recent defeat being a 15-0 loss two weeks ago.

Martinsburg saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Bowers, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Martinsburg dropped their record down to 8-22 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Spring Mills, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-10 record this season.

Martinsburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Spring Mills, they will face off against Wheeling Park at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
