Football Game Preview: Lake Highland Prep Highlanders vs. Mount Dora Hurricanes

The Lake Highland Prep Highlanders will head out on the road to face off against the Mount Dora Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lake Highland Prep has three straight victories, Mount Dora has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Lake Highland Prep's offense will try to repeat the strong performance it gave on Friday, when they got past Cornerstone Charter Academy's usually-dominant defense. The Highlanders were the clear victors by a 42-19 margin over the Ducks.

Lake Highland Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eddie Bohne led the charge by rushing for 103 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also picking up 99 receiving yards and one score. Those 99 receiving yards gave Bohne a new career-high. Another signal caller making a difference was Will Wankelman, who threw for 265 yards and four TDs while completing 90.9% of his passes.

Meanwhile, Mount Dora came up short against South Lake on Friday and fell 19-10.

Even if they lost, Mount Dora's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Kion Maxcean was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight.

Lake Highland Prep's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Mount Dora, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Lake Highland Prep has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 180 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mount Dora struggles in that department as they've been averaging 222.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
