Basketball Recap: Bella Marquez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy over Austin

Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 19-16 heartbreaker at the hands of the Austin Panthers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-19 on January 10th.

Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bella Marquez, who posted four points along with five rebounds and five steals. Marquez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alondra Perez, who scored no points in addition to six boards, three steals, and three blocks.

Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-19. As for Austin, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-15.

Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy will square off against Harmony Science Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Harmony Science Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
