Softball Recap: Wellsville's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Wellsville came into Thursday's matchup having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They never let the Baldwin Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Thursday. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered an 8-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Grace Brunmeier made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

Brunmeier wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ava Stites, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base was Stites' first of the season. Another was Kaylee Wood, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Wellsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 7-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Wellsville's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Baldwin, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Wellsville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair will be back at it again later today.
