Football Recap: Charlotte Comes Up Short + How To Watch

While it was all tied up 7-7 at halftime, Charlotte was not quite Port Charlotte's equal in the second half on Friday. They were outmatched by the Pirates and fell 35-7. The loss continues a trend for the Fightin' Tarpons in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost four in a row.

Even if they lost, Charlotte's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Trenton Curliss, Aaron Hurley, and Ryan Morris, who each picked up one sack apiece. Charlotte got some further help from Curliss: he picked up a sack, made ten total tackles, and defended two passes.

Logan Flaherty had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 74 yards and two TDs, while also throwing for 145 yards and one touchdown for Port Charlotte. That's the most rushing yards Flaherty has posted since back in November of 2024.

Charlotte's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Port Charlotte, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Charlotte will welcome McLaughlin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Fightin' Tarpons will be up against the Phoenix's rather soft defense (which has allowed 32 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Port Charlotte, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Naples at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
