Excel had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Washington County Bulldogs as they made off with a 10-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won seven games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Avery Duke was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alivia Johnson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Emilee Gulsby was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
The victory got Excel back to even at 11-11. As for Washington County, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11.
Looking ahead, Excel will look to defend their home field on Friday against Straughn at 4:30 p.m. As for Washington County, they will face off against Thomasville at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
